Questions about Clorox 2®’s stain removing properties.
Go ahead, ask us again!
We could talk about Clorox 2® all day.
Q. Why should I use Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster?
A. Clorox 2® product helps get out what detergents can leave behind. Use it to power out tough stains and brighten fabrics for brilliant colors and vibrant whites. Clorox 2® product is specially formulated to remove stains, brighten colors and whiten whites. Add it to every load (except silk and wool) in addition to detergent — it is great for:
- Color loads
- Dark colors
- Delicate fabrics
- White loads
- Mixed loads
- Bright colors
However, if in doubt about a garment, use the following colorfastness test:
- Apply 1 drop of liquid Clorox 2® product to a hidden colored area of the garment for 5 minutes.
- Rinse and let air dry.
- The garment is safe for washing if color does not fade or bleed.
To test colorfastness with dry Clorox 2® product:
- Dissolve 1 tsp of Dry Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster in 1 cup of hot water.
- Soak a hidden colored area of the garment in solution for 1 minute.
- Rinse and let air dry.
- The garment is safe for washing if color does not fade or bleed.
Always read and follow precautions and usage directions before using cleaning products. Always store cleaning products out of reach of children.
Q. The care label on this garment advises use of a non-chlorine bleach. Is this a non-chlorine bleach?
A. Yes. Clorox 2® product is considered a non-chlorine bleach and can be used on garments with care labels stating either “non-chlorine bleach only” or “bleach when needed.”
Q. The care label of this garment states “no bleach.” Can Clorox 2® product be used on such a garment?
A. We would recommend testing for colorfastness. If using Dry Clorox 2® product, dissolve 1 teaspoon of Dry Clorox 2® product in 1 cup of hot water. Soak a hidden colored area of the garment in the solution for 1 minute. Rinse and let air dry. The garment is safe for washing if color does not fade or bleed. If using Liquid Clorox 2® product, apply 1 drop to hidden colored area. Rinse after 5 minutes and air dry. The garment is safe for washing if color does not fade or bleed.
Q. I have a High Efficiency (front loading) washing machine — can I use Clorox 2® product with my machine?
A. Clorox 2® product can be used with both standard and HE washing machines.
- For Liquid Clorox 2® product: after adding detergent, fill cap to line 1 and add to the detergent dispenser in your HE machine to brighten your colors.
Also, if you use liquid detergent, use Liquid Clorox 2® product, and if you use powder detergent, use Dry Clorox 2® product.
Q. Can Clorox 2® product be used to disinfect clothing?
A. No. Clorox 2® product is not registered as a disinfectant with the EPA. Of course, Clorox® Regular-Bleach can be used as a disinfectant if the fabric is safe for sodium hypochlorite bleach.
Q. Is Clorox 2® product safe on nylon, silk or wool?
A. We would not recommend Clorox 2® product on silk or wool. However, almost all washable garments, such as nylon and Spandex, can be safely treated with Clorox 2® product. If in doubt about a garment, please use the colorfastness test described above. Always refer to garment's fabric care tag for laundering instructions.
Q. My house is on a septic system. Is it still safe to use Clorox 2® product?
A. Yes. The recommended use of Clorox 2® product will not have any detrimental effect on a home septic system.
Q. What’s the difference between Clorox® Regular-Bleach and Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster? Which is a better product?
A. Clorox® Regular-Bleach and Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster are really quite different products. Sodium hypochlorite bleaches like Clorox® Regular-Bleach are strong oxidants and are very effective at soil and stain removal. Clorox® Regular-Bleach is great to use on whites and bleachable colors to remove stains. It also works well to remove dirt and body soil — better than detergent alone. However, because of their powerful oxidizing properties, these bleaches are not safe for all fabrics or fabric dyes. Clorox 2® product uses the power of an oxygen bleach (hydrogen peroxide) to safely* remove stains from colored clothes. This formula works best on a broad range of colored stains such as beverages (e.g., coffee, tea, wine), fruits/vegetables (e.g., blueberry, grape, cherry) and spaghetti sauce. It also contains an optical brightener to boost the color of your clothes and whiten whites. This product is specially formulated to be safe for all colors and can be used in almost all loads*. In addition, Clorox 2® product† cleans and brightens colors better than the leading detergent alone. Available in both liquid and powder versions.
* Use as directed
†For liquid Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster, pre-treat for best results. DO NOT allow the Clorox 2® to dry on fabrics.
Q. Will I get added cleaning power if I add some Clorox® Regular-Bleach to a washload containing Clorox 2® product?
A. No, we would not recommend this. In fact, the two products would actually tend to counteract each other and would probably give you less satisfactory results than either one used with detergent.
Q. How do you use Clorox 2® product to remove dye that bleeds onto clothes?
A. Dye transfer is caused when unstable fabric dye colors “bleed” from one fabric to another. These stains are very difficult to remove. The best solution to minimize the problem: sort all washloads by color, wash in recommended wash temperatures and always remove clothes from washer as soon as rinse cycle is complete. Also treating before the items have been dried provides your best chance at removal. You may use Clorox 2® product to treat dye transfer by using the product as a pre-soak, followed by machine-washing in the warmest water safe for the fabric. If color remains, you might test the fabric to determine if it can be safely laundered with a sodium hypochlorite bleach such as Clorox® Regular-Bleach. Another alternative (on all-white fabrics only) is to use a packaged color remover or stripper such as one sold under the “Rit” label. Always read and carefully follow label directions for use on these products.
Q. It’s cold weather outside and my 2X concentrated liquid Clorox 2® product has a thicker consistency than usual. Is it still safe to use on my fabrics?
A. Yes. When liquid Clorox 2® product is exposed to cold temperatures, it can thicken in consistency, but it is still safe to use as you would normally. It will work just as well once it is in your washing machine.
Always read and follow precautions and usage directions before using cleaning products. Always store cleaning products out of reach of children.
Q. How do I use Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster packs in HE Machines? Are they HE Compatible?
Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster packs are HE Compatible. For HE Machines, add one Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster pack directly into your washing machine. For large or extra dirty loads, use two packs. Add detergent into the dispenser and wash per garment instructions.
Q. Can I use Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster packs with Clorox® Regular-Bleach?
A. We recommend using Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster with colors and Clorox® Regular-Bleach with whites. Do not use Clorox 2® Stain-Fighter & Color-Booster with bleach.
Q. How should I store this product? Does cold or hot environment matter?
A. We recommend that you store the Packs at room temperature. Please keep the bag sealed when not using the bag.
Q. Do I have to use the packs with a certain water temperature?
A. Clorox 2® packs can be used with any water temperature.
Q. Can I throw the packs right on top of my clothes?
